I love Taschen books and unsurprisingly for anyone who knows me the Mario Testino’s Rio photo book has been a favourite for long. As a yoga lover I was obviously excited to see Taschen realising Michael O’Neill’s book ‘On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace’.
In this day and age where most things media related to yoga are evolving around pictures of scorpion poses on Instagram or a promoted yoga event with a major active wear brand it is truly refreshing to get your hands on an old school beautiful coffee table book. O’Neill’s series of photos covers everything from the history of yoga to its modern day interpretations. You’ll see images of anyone from yoga legends such as Shiva Rea and Jivamukti founders David Life and Sharon Gannon to model Christy Burlington and self-help guru and social media star Gabrielle Bernstein.
It might sound like a cliché, but ‘On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace’ actually does capture the soul and spirit of yoga in a book form. In addition to the stunning photography the text gives an in-depth understanding of the art of yoga from both an anthropologic and sociologic perspective. This is a great gift for anyone who loves yoga.
